Son of God

Son of God is not an honorary title bestowed on Christ for his obedience. It names his eternal relationship to the Father, a relationship that exists before and independent of his mission to redeem, though that mission flows directly out of it.

What does Hebrews say about the Son and the angels?

Hebrews opens by setting the Son above every other messenger God has ever used, asking, “For to which of the angels did He ever say, ‘YOU ARE MY SON, TODAY I HAVE BEGOTTEN YOU’? … And let all the angels of God worship Him” (Hebrews 1:5-6). The Son is not one prophet among many but the one through whom God has spoken finally and completely (Hebrews 1:1-2), the radiance of his glory and the exact representation of his nature (Hebrews 1:3).

Why did God send his Son to redeem those under the Law?

Paul ties this same sonship directly to redemption: “when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons” (Galatians 4:4-5). The eternal Son took on human nature precisely so that those he redeems could share, by adoption, in the sonship that is his alone by nature.
